FoE Europe has condemned the decision of the European Commission to allow up to 4 billion pounds ( € 6bn) in state aid to nuclear reactor company British Energy plc. The money will pay for reactor decommissioning costs over the next 100 years. They warn that, without the introduction of new legal controls, this case is likely to lead to many similar cases from other nuclear firms, many of which are not putting aside adequate funding to cover decommissioning and waste management liabilities.
